Stanford, CA - Stanford took an early lead this afternoon, with sophomore Liz Lanese scoring the first goal of the game after 36 seconds of play. The Cardinal went on to outplay UC-Davis in a 10-2 victory. An outstanding effort on offense led to seven different Stanford scorers, including three goals by Lanese in the first half. Up 6-2 at half-time, the Cardinal defense shut down the Aggies and kept them scoreless for the remainder of the game.
Under first-year head coach Michele Uhlfelder (Maryland '91), Stanford (2-0 overall, 2-0 WWLL) looks to repeat its success as three-year reigning Western Women's Lacrosse League Champion. The Cardinal defeated the Aggies 12-9 last year in the WWLL Championship Game. Other standouts from today's game include senior tri-captain Katharine Barnes with two goals, and freshman Noor Dawood who scored at 29 seconds into the second half and added an assist to sophomore Sarah Sawyer with 16:59 to play in the game. On defense, freshman Katie Grube led the team with five caused turnovers and three groundballs.
