After three months of writing routines and building strength and endurance, Stanford Synchronized Swimming gears up for its first meet of the season, the William and Mary Invitational in Newport News, Virginia. The team departs on January 21st and will compete against The College of William and Mary, The University of Mary Washington, and The University of Incarnate Word.
Stanford intends to enter two team routines, three solos, two duets, and three trios in the competition. In the days preceding their departure, the coaching staff and athletes will fine tune choreography to increase their confidence in each routine. The Cardinal looks to dominate each event and set a strong precedent that they are the team to beat this season.
This year's Stanford "A" team will consist of Olympians Sara Lowe and Courtenay Stewart, Olympic squad member Katie Norris, and National Team members Samantha Bongiovanni-Duclos, Poppy Carlig, Melissa Knight, Elizabeth-Anne Markman, Ashley McHugh, and Cassidy Ramage. Captain of the Cardinal "B" team, Mari Maekawa, will lead fellow teammates Hilary Homenko, Katherine Norris, Hae-Rin Lee, and Courtney Penn.
Stanford Synchronized Swimming's first home meet of the season will be held at the Avery Aquatic Center on Saturday, February 19th versus the University of Alabama. Admission is free to all!
