STANFORD, Calif. - Hi Stanford fans,

Okay, so the week had its bumps and bruises. Practice leading up to the meet was not as promising as it should have been and the meet against San Jose State and UC Davis was not our usual SWG-tacular performance. But hey, we got it out of our systems now and we're confident because SWG's still got our signature swagger.

After resting Nikki, CJ, and Heather last week, it seemed natural to have them back in action at the meet in Davis, Calif., on Friday. However, our team's overall performance was not so natural for us. We had some uncharacteristic falls on beam and floor and couldn't seem to fight back the deficit until vault and bars. In plain words, it wasn't us - it wasn't who we are. But arguably there's some good in this once-and- never-again experience, because sometimes we have to be put down in order to be built back up even stronger. And that's exactly what SWG has set out to do. We're really motivated to ensure that these mistakes won't happen again.

On Sunday's practice after the meet, we raised our intensity and got SWG's swagger back and in full range of motion. We whole-heartedly enjoyed the mental toughness the coaches have placed on us because we all desire to do our very best under any circumstances. We have started performing under quick 2-3 minute warm-ups, and we are focusing more in our beam performances despite the loud heckling from the men's volleyball team that were brought in. These are just a few things Kristen has thrown our way to mentally prepare us for anything. We say, "bring it!"

Despite all the downers from the weekend, there were still plenty of things to boast about. Dani Ikoma really stepped it up on beam, floor, and vault with rock solid performances during the meet. Kelly Fee also started us off beautifully with a 9.9 on our last event, bars. And Nikki Ourada's 9.9 floor routine really fired up the crowd. After the meet we enjoyed a home-cooked meal at Tenaya West's house and spent time with the parents.

On Sunday evening, the freshmen and sophomores made SWG proud by performing a sweet hiphop dance with break dancing moves at Stanford's Athlete Date Auction. The charity auction was for Camp Kesem, a student run camp for kids with a parent who has (or has had) cancer. We auctioned off a day with the team playing in the pit and on other gym equipment. We were bought by the men's crew team and raised $300 for the cause!

Well that's all for this week, thanks for checking in and supporting SWG. Be sure to come back next week for hear all about our meet at Alabama this weekend!
