Synchro Continues Strong Showing At U.S. Nationals

HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. - The Stanford synchronized swimming team heads into the finals of the 2010 U.S. Nationals holding on to first place in the team and duet competitions after its second day in Huntersville, N.C., Friday.

In the solo preliminary technical event, freshman Jessica Guenther scored an 83.833 to finish in eighth place, while senior Gayle Lee tallied 81.333 points for a 10th-place finish. After tying for sixth on Thursday, Guenther moves on to the solo finals with a combined score of 171.583.

In the duet technical preliminary, seniors Debbie Chen and Taylor Durand captured first place with a score of 84.167. The duo totaled 173.667 points to claim first place heading into Saturday's final event.

The Cardinal also placed first in the team technical event Friday. Alex Bollaidlaw, Chen, Madison Crocker, Durand, Guenther, Wendy Lu, Corinne Smith and Koko Urata turned in a score of 87.333.

Stanford's combined team score of 179.333 sits ahead of the University of the Incarnate Word (177.667) and the Walnut Creek Aquanuts (174.042).

The 2010 U.S. Nationals concludes, Saturday, Apr. 17 in Huntersville, N.C. The day will begin with the combination final at 9:25 a.m. ET, followed by the solo final at 10:55 a.m., the duet final at 11:50 a.m. and the team final at 1:30 p.m.
