DENVER (AP) - The Denver Broncos added a fifth quarterback to their roster Tuesday, signing free agent Steve Stenstrom to a contract on Tuesday.

Stenstrom, a former star at Stanford, will compete with Jarious Jackson and Ronnie McAda for the third quarterback spot when training camp opens this summer.

Brian Griese returns as Denver's starter, and Gus Frerotte is the backup.

In 17 career games with three teams, Stenstrom completed 56 percent of his passes for 1,895 yards with four touchdowns and 12 interceptions. He has played for the Chicago Bears, Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers but was cut by the Detroit Lions in training camp last year.
