STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford sophomore opposite Curt Toppel, who led the Cardinal to a five-game victory over then-No. 1 and previously unbeaten Pepperdine, has been named the Molten MPSF Player of the Week.
Toppel, the 2000 MPSF and National Freshman of the Year, recorded a match and season-high 30 kills with a .362 hitting percentage against the Waves. He also added 10 digs for his fifth career double-double as Stanford rallied from a 2-1 deficit in games and a 10-6 hole in game five for the 30-28, 25-30, 26-30, 30-28, 15-13 victory.
Stanford, ranked No. 4 in the latest USA Today/AVCA Coaches' Top 15 poll, travels to Southern California for a pair of MPSF matches this weekend. The Cardinal (3-0, 1-0 MPSF) will face No. 11 Cal State Northridge on Friday, Jan. 27 and No. 2 UC Santa Barbara on Saturday, Jan. 28.
