STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford freshman pitcher Nyree White tossed a perfect game against Botswana, Monday, to lead the United States Junior National team to a 17-0 three-inning win at the 2011 International Softball Federation (ISF) Junior World Championships in Cape Town, South Africa.
"The team put up a ton of runs today so it was pretty easy for me just going out there throwing strikes," White said. "I wanted to use my defense, roll up ground balls, which is the same approach that I usually have. I wanted to make sure that we got back in the dugout so we could keep scoring some more runs."
The U.S. has completed pool play with a perfect 7-0 record and secured the No. 1 seed in Pool A. The team will start playoff action on Dec. 15 at 7:30 a.m. PT against Australia, the No. 2 seed in Pool B. the winner will play again on Friday, Dec. 16.
