Federal Way, Wash. - A week before the swimming portion of the Pac-10 Championships, the diving began with huge success for Stanford. Dwight Dumais captured the Pac-10 1-meter diving championship for the Cardinal.
Because the swimming championships do not begin until next week, the diving scores will not officially be added until then. However, the Pac-10 title by Dumais will get Stanford off to a nice start.
Dumais finished with a total of 383.05 points defeating second place Harrison Jones of USC who finished with 374.50. It is the second Pac-10 1-meter diving title for Dumais, who also won the event in 2007.
Also diving well for Stanford was Brent Eichenseer who finished fourth with 340.20 points. Eichenseer will also score for the Cardinal once the event is added during the swimming championships.
Thursday, the Pac-10 diving championships will continue with the 3-meter competition. The Pac-10 swimming championships take place March 4-7, from Belmont Plaza Olympic Pool in Long Beach, Calif.
