Evanston, Ill. - No. 16 Stanford (9-2) pulled away on the strength of a 6-1 second half run to take a 9-5 win over No. 20 Northwestern (6-4) today at Lakeside Field. Despite being down 4-3 at the half, the Cardinal overpowered the Wildcats to record its ninth win of the season.
Stanford pulled away gradually in the after the break, posting four goals in the opening 15:49 of the second half as freshman Megan Burker and sophomore Nina Pantano each netted their second goal of the match. In the goal, junior Christina Saikus collected 10 saves on the day, six of which she recorded during the second half as she allowed only one goal.
Stanford will be back in action on Sunday as the Cardinal travel to South Bend, Indiana to face No. 15 Notre Dame.
