STANFORD, Calif. - Even for Carly Janiga, the six-time All-American and defending Pac-10 all-around champion, Friday was a good day.
The Stanford senior captured three first places, including the all-around, and tied her career best on the balance beam to lead No. 7 Stanford to its season-high score (196.800) and victories over Bay Area rivals California and San Jose State. For her efforts, Janiga was named Gymnast of the Week by the Pac-10 Conference on Monday.
For Janiga, it's her second such honor this year and the fifth of her career.
Janiga had two scores of 9.925 and above, including a 9.95 on beam, in the tri-meet. This year, she has Stanford's season-best scores in three events, plus the all-around. She has 14 victories this season and ranks among the nation's top 20 in four categories.
