Stanford, Calif. - The 18th-ranked Stanford women's lacrosse team got four goals from Abbi Hills and Kelsey Twist to cruise to a 16-7 victory over visiting Brown on Sunday afternoon at Maloney Field. The Cardinal improve to 5-1 overall, heading their game with Harvard on Tuesday.
Stanford's Megan Burker wasted no time, scoring the game's first goal just 49 seconds in. Brown quickly tied the game and after each team scored again, the score was even at 2-2 after two minutes of play.
The Cardinal went up 7-4 in the 14th minute, and did not allow another Brown goal in the first half. Stanford went a scoring tear, recording five unanswered on two goals by Twist and one each from Burker, Julia Calzonetti and Nina Pantano to lead 12-4 at halftime.
Brown's Sarah Passano scored the second half's first goal, but Twist responded with her third goal of the game. Laurel Pierpont got Brown within 14-7, but Hills and Tiffany Chao finished the Cardinal scoring and preserved the 16-7 victory.
Hills and Twist led the Stanford offense with four goals, while Burker chipped in three and Pantano added two. Hills and Kim Cahill each recorded two assists. Goalkeeper Christina Saikus played the entire game in goal, finishing with 12 saves.
Pierpont and Christine Anneberg each recorded two of Brown's seven goals.
Stanford will be in action on Tuesday when they host Harvard. Game time is set for 7 p.m. at Maloney Field.
