TEMPE, Ariz. - Sophomore outside hitter Amanda Burbridge pounded out a match-high 23 kills as Arizona State fell to fifth-ranked Stanford, 1-3, in the Wells Fargo Arena this afternoon before a crowd of 897. Game scores were 7-15, 16-14, 6-15, 6-15.
Arizona State falls to 5-6 on the year, 2-2 in conference action. Stanford improves to 8-2 overall, 4-0 in the Pac-10.
Sophomore middle blocker Michelle Mortensen added 12 kills and two block assists for the Devils while freshman Jamie Coughlin tallied 11 kills and a match-high 19 digs.
For the Cardinal, middle blocker Sara Sandrick had a team-high 16 kills (16-2-32, .438 hitting percentage). Jennifer Detmer added 13 kills, one block solo and eight block assists while setter Robyn Lewis tallied seven kills, 47 assists, nine digs and three block assists on the afternoon.
Stanford outblocked Arizona State 15 to 6. The Devils also committed 11 service errors on the match.
ASU will next travel to Oregon in continued conference action while the Cardinal will host the Washington schools in Palo Alto, Calif.
