STANFORD, Calif. - The Stanford women's gymnastics team will take on defending NCAA champion UCLA at least four times, including a home dual meet on Jan. 23 at Burnham Pavilion, during the 2011 season.
Cardinal coach Kristen Smyth announced a 2011 schedule that also includes a demanding dual at Utah, the nation's sixth-place team, in another matchup of NCAA Super Six finalists from last season.
Stanford, the nation's fourth-place team in 2010, will have three home meets in its nine-meet regular season schedule -- UCLA and San Jose State (Feb. 6) at Burnham Pavilion and Arizona State (Feb. 27) at Maples Pavilion.
The Cardinal opens its season Jan. 9 at the Pac-10 Preview at UCLA's Pauley Pavilion, the site of the Pac-10 Conference championships on March 19. The Pac-10 Preview includes all seven conference teams. Besides the Preview, dual and conference meets, Stanford will meet UCLA and NCAA qualifier Oregon State in a tri-meet at the IGI Chicago Style meet on Feb. 11 at Chicago's Navy Pier.
Stanford and UCLA could meet a fifth time at the NCAA Championships in Cleveland, Ohio, April 14-16.
Stanford returns captains Allyse Ishino and Shelley Alexander, among 10 returning members of last year's team. NCAA uneven bars champion Carly Janiga, first-team All-America Blair Ryland, and floor exercise specialist Tenaya West all graduated, but the Cardinal will benefit from a strong recruiting class that features Canadian national all-around champion Kristina Vaculik and 2008 Australian Olympian Shona Morgan.
