STANFORD, Calif.-- Reunion Homecoming Weekend will welcome back its swimming alumni on Saturday October 23 for an alumni meet for both the men's and women's teams starting at 9 a.m. The meet will prelude the football team's game with Washington State that same day starting at 2 p.m.
The annual swim meet will count towards NCAA participation and is an annual event, bringing back former swimmers to compete against the current team. Amongst the two coaching staffs, assistants Ted Knapp, Erik Maurer and women's coach Lea Maurer all previously swam for the Cardinal. A post-game BBQ will conclude the festivities.
The Stanford men have won eight NCAA titles and finished as a runner-up for in third at the NCAA meet 21 times at the NCAA Championships. Head Coach Skip Kenney is coming off its 29th-straight Pac-10 title and a fourth place finish at the national meet.
The women are coming off its best season since 2001, boasting a conference title and a runner-up national finish. The women have won nine national titles and have finished in the national top-10 every year since 1975.
Cardinal swimmers have competed at an Olympics every year since 1960, and have had competitors at Olympics as far back as 1920. The program has boasted 12-time medalist and four-time Olympian Jenny Thompson, five-time medalists Janet Evans (1988, 1992), John Hencken (1972, 1976) and Pablo Morales (1984, 1992). In addition, Thompson (2000), Sharon Stouder (1964), Chris von Saltza Olmstead (1960) and Summer Sanders (1992) won four medals at a single Games.
