Boston University Release:
Baltimore, MD -Alyssa Trudel (Middlebury, VT) had a hat trick and Kristin
Abruzzese (Medford, NJ) and Katie Nordhoff (Ellicott City, MD) each
added two goals as the Boston University women's lacrosse team
defeated Stanford, 9-8, in the teams' first-ever meeting on Sunday
afternoon (March 24) at UMBC Stadium.
Goalkeeper Brooke Barrett (Bel Air, MD) made 11 saves as the Terriers
improved to 3-2 on the season.
Trudel paced a 5-0 run to open the game, scoring two of her game-high
three goals in the first 12 minutes of play. Sophomore midfielder Sasha
Lang (Cornish, NH) tallied her first career-goal while Abruzzese and
Nordhoff added single goals. The B.U. defense held Stanford scoreless
for the first 14 minutes of the first half.
The Cardinal bounced back, scoring seven unanswered goals to go up, 7-5, early in the second half. Tiffany Chao led Stanford with two goals.
Trudel, Abruzzese and Nordhoff each scored once more in the second half and Ericka Hergenroeder (Annapolis, MD) added a goal as B.U. outscored Stanford 4-1 to close out the game.
Barrett had one of her strongest outings of the season, allowing just eight goals while making 11 stops and forcing two turnovers.She was honored as the AllLacrosse-America.com Player of the Week after making 18 saves in the Terriers two victories over University of Maryland-Baltimore County and Stanford.
