STANFORD, Calif. - Hola SWG fans!
It has been another exciting week for SWG! On Wednesday, we had an intense but efficient practice, logging in more numbers and working mostly on details and landings. It is nice that our gymnastics is so solid and comfortable that we are able to just focus on tiny little details that will give us an extra tenth or two.
Thursday was our annual dress-up-as-that-thing-you-picked-out-of-the-hat day! Let's be real, we have many dress-up days but this one wasn't a themed day or a spirit day. Each member of the team wrote a character (a food, an idea, whatever they wanted) down on a piece of paper and the papers were put in a hat. Then we all picked from the hat to see what we were to dress up as the next day. Thursday came and everyone looked awesome! Props to Daytona for actually finding a banana suit! Others included Peach as Snooki and Kristina as Justin Bieber (she actually looked exactly like him and she was happy because they are both Canadian!). Then in our outfits, we went outside to the grass where we tackled two team activities: the helium stick and the human knot. As a team, we needed to lower the helium stick to the ground while each person had to be touching the stick at the same time with both of their forefingers, we couldn't talk to each other, and if someone's finger loses contact with the stick we will have to start all over at chest level. SWG blazed though the helium stick like pros and was able to get it all the way to the ground in fewer than 10 minutes. The human knot was a little more difficult to untie without communication.
Sunday was our quad meet at Cal against Denver, Cal and OSU. On a rainy Sunday morning, SWG loaded up the bus and headed towards the Haas Pavilion at Berkeley. The theme we wanted to portray at the meet went along with the look of the black swan. Equipped with our brand new warmup suits, we wore the black backless leos along with super dark eye makeup and dark red lips.
Warmups went smoothly, everything has become like clockwork at competitions with everyone knowing and performing their roles perfectly. While we were marching out, a lady that directed where to go whispered to us "Stanford, this year's National Champions." We have had this goal in mind all year; we all believe this and carried this statement all through the meet. It is exciting that other people are starting to believe as well! There were many highlights throughout the meet, but some major ones that stood out to me was Peach débuting her vault (scoring a 9.9!) and Amo coming up with a huge bar routine in the back of the lineup following a fall.
Check back in next week for more SWG updates!
