Honolulu, Hawaii - In what is commonly called "the longest day in college sailing," the Cardinal Coed Team had their ups and downs today competing against 17 of the other top sailing schools in North America at the ICSA Coed Dinghy Championship. Sixteen races were held, 8 in A Division and 8 in B Division. Shifty winds meant lead changes were the rule today, with boats going from top half of the fleet to bottom half in one leg of the race. The Cardinal sits in 9th place overall, within striking distance of the top 6. Competition is as tight as anyone has ever seen, with one point separating the top three places in the regatta.

Dave Phillips and Kara Sweeney finished today in 8th place in the competitive A Division. Only 6 points behind 7th place Charleston, Phillips and Sweeney had top finishes of 8, 2, 5, 1, and 7 today. The duo set their sights on grinding off that difference on Friday's last 4 races.

B Division team Ted Conrads and Amy Halvorsen sailed one set today before passing the reins over to Peter Deming and Lauren Gross. Deming and Gross managed a pair of 10's and a pair of 9's in their sets. Conrads and Halvo stepped in for the last set to rip off an amazing 1, 7. The B Division team sits in 9th overall, a mere 3 points behind 8th place Tufts.

Stanford has a solid chance to leap up into the top 9 in tomorrow's last four races. Both Championship awards and All-American honors will be given out at tomorrow night's Awards banquet.
