Overland Park, KS - The Stanford University Men's Gymnastics team will advance to the 1999 West Regional Championships, the NCAA announced today. With a Regional Qualifying Score of 223.325, Stanford finished ranked fourth in its region, which automatically qualified the team for regional action. The Cardinal will compete in the West Regional, which is hosted by #11 BYU, on Saturday, April 10th. Stanford and BYU will be joined at the regional by #5 Nebraska, #7 Oklahoma and #13 California.
The regional competition consists of two different locations, the west regional in Provo, Utah and the east regional in Champaign, Illinois. While the west regional features five teams and five all-around competitors (who are not on a qualifying team), the east regional features seven teams and seven all-around athletes (who are not on a qulifying team). Each of those regionals will send its top three teams and top three individuals on each event to the the National Championships. This year's NCAA Championship will take place in Lincoln, Nebraska from April 22nd-24th.
