Stanford, Calif. - This fall has been eventful on The Farm and in the community. Since August, more than 125 Stanford student-athletes representing 16 different teams have volunteered over 600 hours in the community, completing 12 projects serving 15 community partners, including a Buddy Day at Stanford soccer, food sort at Second Harvest, technology center renovation at the Shelter Network, and visits to the Ronald McDonald House and Boys & Girls Club of the Peninsula.

In its second year, Cardinal 4 the Community (C4C) offers student-athletes the opportunity to get involved with community projects above and beyond what individual teams are doing. The C4C projects bring together athletes from multiple teams to collaborate in serving community organizations.

"C4C projects have been great and have really given us a chance to get to know other athletes who we otherwise wouldn't get the opportunity to work with," says senior Sailing team member Helena Scutt. "It gives us a great reason to get to know our peers during a very powerful and worthwhile service experience."

The program is designed to support community organizations by connecting student-athletes and community members for various one-off projects. The teams will spend half a day volunteering and getting to know the members of the organization. Be it building a house or bonding with youth, the student-athletes find great value in getting off campus and giving back to the Bay Area.

"The Bay Area does so much to support Stanford Athletics, so it means a lot to us to have the chance to give back and show how much we appreciate our community and want to improve it," says Annie Case, a junior defender on Women's Soccer.

"Through C4C, giving back is made that much easier because all of the project logistics are taken care of," continues Case. "All we have to do is sign up and show up, and we know that we'll be connected with a great organization doing meaningful work."

During the upcoming winter and spring quarters, C4C will offer a variety of projects including a Habitat for Humanity build day, Buddy Day at Men's Basketball, and field day on campus, among others. Individual teams will also initiate and complete a variety of projects as well, including Friends of Jaclyn, Read Across America, school visits and much more.
