STANFORD, Calif. - Fifth-year senior Chase Thomas of the football team has been named the Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for November 26 - December 2.
Thomas led Stanford in its first ever Pac-12 Football Championship Game to a victory over No. 17 UCLA, 27-24. The Pac-12 Championship sends the Cardinal to its 13th all-time Rose Bowl Game and first in 13 years.
Thomas led with season highs of 2.0 sacks and 10 tackles (seven solo). His first two sack plays (one solo, one assist) came on UCLA third downs and forced the Bruins to punt. On his final sack assist, Thomas put UCLA into 3rd & 13 and a subsequent punt. Thomas also broke up a pass attempt in the end zone.
A Communication major taking his final class at Stanford this fall, Thomas came to The Farm from Marietta (Ga.) Walton High School. He set school records with 37 career sacks, including 17 sacks his senior year. Thomas led his team to a league title and the Georgia 6A state semifinals in 2007.
Thomas and the 11-2 football team play their next game Jan. 1 vs. Wisconsin in the 99th Rose Bowl Game presented by VIZEO, with a national ESPN broadcast at 1:30 p.m. PT.
