Theresa Logar Advances to Singles Championship

Junior Theresa Logar won her fourth-straight match at the 2005 ITA National Indoor Championships in Columbus, Ohio, this afternoon to earn a spot in the title match on Sunday. Senior Alice Barnes, who fell in the singles semifinal, advanced to the doubles championship along with junior Anne Yelsey.

Logar defeated No. 3 Kristi Miller of Georgia Tech6-7 (5), 6-2, 6-1 in today's semifinal, making her the 13th Cardinal player to reach the ITA National Indoor singles final. She will be looking to become Stanford's seventh champion (and first since Laura Granville in 2001). She will challenge Florida's Diana Srebrovic, who defeated Barnes 7-5, 6-1, in the day's second semifinal.

Barnes and Yelsey picked up a win by walkover against New Mexico's Maja Kovacek and Iva Gersic. Lobos' assistant coach Roy Cañada informed tournament officials this morning that he was withdrawing Kovacek and Gersic from the tournament for disciplinary reasons. Barnes and Yelseywill belooking to add to Stanford's record six doubles titles at the championships when they take on 16th-ranked Jenna Long and Sara Anundsen of North Carolina tomorrow.

In Tempe, sophomore Whitney Deason scored her second win at the ASU Thunderbird Classic with a 6-2, 6-0, victory over Michigan's Lindsay Howard in the Gold Bracket. She will face a third Wolverine tomorrow, when she takes on Kara Delicata at 9:30 a.m. In doubles, Deason and sophomore Celia Durkin defeated Michigan's Delicata and Exon, 9-7. They will face Kansas State duo Simosa and Klimova tomorrow.
