STANFORD, Calif. - The Stanford synchronized swimming team defeated Arizona, Saturday, at the Avery Aquatic Center. The Cardinal won four events on the day.
"The team did a fantastic job today," said head coach Heather Olson. "The routines were definitely improved since our fist meet at Lindenwood. We had a great crowd that really bolstered the team's confidence today. We still have a lot of room to improve before Collegiate Nationals, but I expect we will see many things better even by tomorrow."
Stanford captured the top two spots in the trio competition. The team of Madison Crocker, Morgan Fuller and Michelle Moore won the event with a score of 87.333. The trio of Taylor Durand, Maria Koroleva and Olivia Morgan placed second with 87.000 points. Freshmen Megan Hansely, Wendy Lu and junior Corrine Smith competed together, posting 85.000 points.
Sophomores Koroleva and Morgan, both National Team members, won the duet with 89.333 points, while Durand and senior Debbie Chen came in second with 87.333 points.
Stanford won the team competition with a score of 93.5000. Competing for the Cardinal was freshman Alex Bollaidlaw, Chen, Crocker, Durand, Fuller, Guenther, Hansley, Moore and Smith.
The Cardinal and the Wildcats will compete again Sunday at the Avery Aquatic Center. The elements competition will start at 9:30 a.m., while the routines will begin at 11:30 a.m.
