STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford's Teryn Ashley and Marissa Irvin advanced to the second round after the first day of the Riviera All-American Championships in Pacific Palisades. The event continues through Sunday.
Ashley, a junior ranked 12th by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, defeated No. 35 Megan Miller of Duke 6-1, 6-2 yesterday and will play No. 9 Agnes Muzamel of Mississippi this afternoon.
Irvin, a freshman ranked 50th, won her first collegiate tournament match by defeated No. 31 Ditta Huber of USC 6-3, 6-2 yesterday and will face No. 3 Mirela Vladulescu of Alabama Birmingham this afternoon.
In doubles competition, Ashley and Irvin, ranked 12th, advanced to the fourth round after upsetting the sixth-ranked duo of Nassoumeh Emami and Kelly Brown of Kentucky 6-0, 6-2.
