GUADALAJARA, Mexico - The U.S. men's and women's water polo teams advanced into their respective semifinal rounds with wins Tuesday at the Pan Am Games, while a Stanford women's gymnast, Kristina Vaculik, earned a silver medal as Canada finished second in the team finals Monday.
Monday, Canada, featuring Stanford's Kristina Vaculik '14, won the silver in the team final, finishing 3.15 points behind the victorious U.S. team.
Vaculik turned in Canada's best score on the uneven bars (14.275) and out of the four disciplines notched the highest cumulative score of the team with a 54.625.
Men's Water Polo
The U.S. men defeated Argentina, 13-7, in its final Group B match to qualify for the semifinal round.
The U.S. meets Cuba in Thursday's first semifinal at 1:30 p.m. PT.
Women's Water Polo
The U.S. women had no problem once again in Group B play Tuesday, routing Cuba, 19-3. The win earned the women a berth in the semifinal round Wednesday, where they will take on Brazil at 1:30 p.m. PT.
The U.S. scored five goals in the first period and four more in the second to take control of the contest with a 9-1 halftime lead.
