The Stanford Women's Lacrosse team travels east to play the Denver Pioneers on Saturday at 1pm MT and the George Mason Patriots on Sunday at 2pm MT. The Pioneers are currently 1-1 on the season, after a big 18-2 win over Regis College. Sunday's game will be the first of the year for George Mason, who finished last season ranked 19th in the country by the IWLCA.
The Cardinal is currently undefeated this season, coming off three conference wins. They opened the season with a 7-4 victory over WWLL rival Cal-Berkeley, led in scoring by freshman Abbi Hills and sophomore Liz Lanese who added 2 goals apiece. Goalkeeper Rachael Neumann also started the season off with a bang, tallying 16 saves in goal.
The following weekend Stanford dominated the UC-Davis Aggies, finishing 10-2. Combining great athleticism on both ends of the field the squad looked ready to live up to last year's title "The Best in The West" - given after their third consecutive WWLL Championship win. Lanese led the team over Davis with a hat-trick in the first half, and the defense came on strong in second half with a shut-out.
Last weekend the Cardinal hosted the Gaels of St. Mary's and came on top of an evenly-matched contest. The 9-8 triumph marks Stanford's third overall and conference win, placing them at the top of the WWLL. Senior tri-captain Katharine Barnes led the team with 3 goals, and Hills along with sophomore Lauren Dietrich, contributed two goals each.
The Cardinal returns to The Farm next Wednesday to host the Wildcats of Davidson University. The game will be played on Maloney Field at 4pm.
