STANFORD, Calif. -

Junior Kori Carter (Claremont, Calif./Claremont High School) of the No. 9 Stanford women’s track and field team was selected as the Stanford/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of April 1-7.

Carter ran the 400-meter hurdles in 54.71 seconds at the Jim Click Shootout in Tucson, Ariz., on Saturday, shattering her own school record while running the fastest time in the world this year.

Carter outdueled Arizona’s Georganne Moline, a 2012 Olympic finalist, in a race that came down to the final meters. Carter achieved the World Championships ‘A’ standard and crushed her own 2011 Stanford record of 57.10. The race was the first in that event this season.

This is Carter’s first Stanford/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week this year and second of her collegiate career. It also is the second for a Cardinal track and field athlete in 2013. Carter and the Cardinal next compete in the Big Meet against Cal on April 20 at Stanford’s Cobb Track & Angell Field.

Also nominated: Kristie Ahn (Women’s Tennis), Kate Baldoni (Women’s Water Polo), Julia Burns (Lacrosse), Ivana Hong (Women’s Gymnastics), Eric Mochalski (Men’s Volleyball), Cassandra Roulund (Softball), Brant Whiting (Baseball).
