Following a great weekend in the desert, Eugene Godsoe was named Counsilman Hunsaker National Collegiate Swimmer-of-the-Week presented by collegeswimming.com.
Godsoe led Stanford to a pair of victories over Pac-10 rivals Arizona State and Arizona over the weekend as the Cardinal remained undefeated (5-0, 3-0 Pac-10).
The most impressive display came on Saturday when Godsoe led Stanford to a drubbing of defending national champion and fourth-ranked Arizona, 191-107. The junior won the 100 backstroke (46.81, NCAA "B" time) and the 200 backstroke (1:43.89, NCAA "B" time). The All-American also assisted on the exhibition 400 freestyle relay (2:53.95, NCAA "B" time) and the winning 400 medley relay (3:08.40, NCAA "B" time).
Against Arizona State on Friday, Godsoe swam to victory in his specialty, the 100 back, with a time of 48.22. He then followed that up with a first-place swim in the 100 free, winning with a time of 45.29. The Cardinal went on to defeat the Sun Devils 156-99.
Godsoe and the rest of the Cardinal swimmers will next compete on Friday, Feb. 6, when they play host to Cal-State Bakersfield at the Avery Aquatics Center.
