Stanford gymnast Dylan Carney has been named the NCAA National Gymnast of the Week for his stellar performance in the Stanford Open on January 27.
Carney posted the highest score in the country on the high bar with a 9.95. He received a standing ovation from the sold out crowd for his near flawless routine after he stuck the landing. With this type of performance, it is no surprise that Carney is the defending NCAA high bar champion. He also turned in an amazing floor routine to earn him the win and a score of 9.55. On the vault, Carney received a score of 8.35.
"Dylan hit on all three of his events; him doing so well didn't really surprise me" said head coach Thom Glielmi. "He works incredibly hard in the gym, which allows him to feel confident as he goes into each event."
The Cardinal came out on top as they posted a score of 209.65, defeating Cal, Nebraska, and Washington.
The team returns to action on Thursday, February 8 (7:30pm) in Las Vegas, NV for the Winter Cup. The next home meet of the season will be held on Friday, February 16 (7:00pm) as they take on Cal for the third time this season.
