FOOTBALL POST-GAME QUOTES
at San Jose State 35, Stanford 34 (San Jose, CA - Spartan Stadium)
September 9, 2006
"I'd like to congratulate San Jose State and Dick Tomey and the spirit and enthusiasm they played with. If you're a fan, [it was] a tremendous game. If you're a Stanford fan, you were left wanting."
On Stanford's need for improvement
"We all need to do a better job of getting our players to work on the areas that we need to improve on. Obviously, we need to tackle better; we have to do the things to help you win, not [those that] cause you to lose. We obviously have a lot of work to do. We have a big responsibility next week opening our new stadium against a talented and challenging opponent."
On one of the keys of the game
"Any time you have a team that runs the ball that well you can't turn the ball over and give the momentum back to them."
On San Jose State quarterback Adam Tafralis
"Their quarterback handled their offense really well and they converted on a couple of critical third downs that kind of took the momentum away from us."
On the game's momentum
"The sport of football is played with momentum; we had it in the first half and couldn't get it back in the second half and a lot of that was due to the way the offense performed. They scored right before we headed to halftime. I think any time a team scores like that pretty convincingly they are going to pick up a lot of momentum for the second half."
On Dwight Lowery's interception in the end zone
"It was a great play call. It (the ball) was just too far behind the receiver. I got to know when it's third and long or third and goal not to put the ball in man coverage behind the receivers. Unfortunately the defensive back made a great play on it, and I guess I would like to have that one back."
On San Jose State
"I have a lot of respect for San Jose State and their coaching staff and players, and I think the better team won today."
