Stanford, Calif. - Redshirt junior midfielder Lauren Schmidt has been named the MPSF Player of the week after the Cardinal split games this past weekend versus No. 1 Northwestern and No. 19 Ohio State. Schmidt totaled four goals and an assist in the two games, including a game-winner in overtime to defeat Ohio State.
Schmidt scored a pair of first-half goals versus the Buckeyes, but it was her overtime goal that completed the comeback for Stanford. It was also Schmidt's first hat trick of the season. Schmidt and the Cardinal also played the five-time defending champion Wildcats tough on Friday, tying the game in the second half, before falling, 18-11. Schmidt tallied one goal and one assist against Northwestern.
For the season Schmidt has now totaled seven goals and three assists, tying Sarah Flynn for the team lead in points with 10. She also has seven ground balls and four draw controls.
