TEMPE, Ariz. - Alyssa Brown led a Stanford trio of 9.9 scores on the balance beam to help the No. 11 Cardinal to a 196.475-194.975 women's gymnastics regular-season finale victory over Arizona State on Friday night at Wells Fargo Arena.
Brown scored a 9.925 to win the beam, just ahead of teammates Ivana Hong and Amanda Spinner, who each scored 9.90. All three set or matched career highs while the Cardinal scored a season-high 49.350 in the event. The team score was Stanford's second-highest of the season and was enough to give the Cardinal its 19th consecutive victory over the Sun Devils (4-6), dating back to 2004.
The singular highlight for Stanford (10-3) was the 9.950 scored by Nicole Pechanec to win the uneven bars. It was the highest score in any event this season by the Cardinal and set a career-best for the senior.
Hong, a two-time champion at the 2009 U.S. senior nationals, had the best meet of her freshman season, including a pair of 9.85s on vault and floor, tying for first in the latter event with teammate Ashley Morgan.
Stanford next competes in the Pac-12 Championships, March 24 in Salt Lake City.
