The Stanford Varsity Women's Eights came ready to race today in the Big Row. Despite early season losses to the Bears at the San Diego Crew Classic the Cardinal was primed for the challenge. Both eights seemed up to the task as they raced stroke for stroke through the first half of the race. The Cardinal did not keep the pace however and fell short in the second half of the race.
Head Coach Aimee Baker says of the racing, "I am very pleased with the first half performance by both the first and second varsity boats. They came out to compete against a very strong Cal program and did just that for the first half of the race. I do not think that Cal has been tested too many times this season so it felt good to challenge them in the first half. Cal has a very fast group and will be the favorite for the Pac-10's in two weeks. Our group continues to improve each race and will look forward to do the same at Pac-10's."

The Cardinal have next weekend off from racing to prepare for the Pac-10 Championship's which will be held May 15 on Lake Natoma in Rancho Cordova, CA. The top finishers at the Pac-10 will qualify for the NCAA Championship's to be held May 27-29 also on Lake Natoma.
