Stanford, Ca An appearance in the prestigious Pre-Season NIT, and a meeting with Gonzaga and Nevada-Las Vegas, highlights the 2002-03 Stanford's men's basketball schedule, announced today by Cardinal head coach Mike Montgomery.
Stanford opens the regular season on Nov. 18 in the Pre-Season NIT against Boston University at Maples Pavilion. If Stanford wins against the Terriers, the Cardinal would then host another NIT game on November 20 against either Xavier or St. Peter's.
This will be Stanford's third appearance in the Pre-Season NIT.
The Cardinal will face the Runnin' Rebels of Nevada Las Vegas for only the second time in school history at the Las Vegas Shootout on Dec. 21. This will be the second straight year that Stanford has played in the Shootout.
On Dec. 28, Stanford and Gonzaga will meet in the Pete Newell Challenge at the Oakland Arena.
This year's Deutsche Banc Alex Brown Stanford Invitational on December 16-17 will include Pepperdine, Richmond, and Montana. The Cardinal will host Montana in the opening round.
Other home non-league games include Rice (November 24), St. Mary's (December 14), UC Irvine (December 19) and Yale (December 30).
Stanford opens the Pac-10 season on Saturday, January 4, at California.
