WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Stanford freshman all-around competitor Lindsay Wing has been named the Pacific-10 Conference Gymnast of the Week for Jan. 30 - Feb. 2, 2001, the Conference announced today. In Stanford's victory over No. 13 Minnesota last Friday, Wing led the Cardinal to school records for team overall score (197.425) and beam score (49.500).
Wing, a four-year member of the U.S. National Team, fashioned one of the best all-around meets in Stanford history. She won the floor exercise with a 9.950 - the sixth-best mark in program history - finished second on beam with a 9.925 (tied for second in the Stanford record books), and won the all-around with a 39.625, the fourth-highest score ever by a Cardinal gymnast. In the latest GymInfo national rankings, Wing is the fourth-ranked gymnast in the country with a 39.300 all-around average. The Cypress, Texas, native also ranks 10th on vault and 18th on beam.
Stanford, which at No. 5 nationally has attained the highest ranking in program history, hosts No. 15 Arizona State in a Pac-10 dual meet this Friday, February 9 at Burnham Pavilion. The competition will begin at 7:30 p.m.
