LONG BEACH, Calif.-- Austin Staab won the 100 fly for the third time, Matt Thompson won his first career title, the 400 IM and Jake Allen was a runner-up in the 200 free, as Stanford remained in front with one day to go at the Pac-10 Championships.

Stanford, paced by three swimmers in the top-10  in four of the six events, lead Cal 599-580, as the Cardinal look to win its 30th-straight Pac-10 title.

Staab won his second title in as many days, following up a win in the 200 IM yesterday with his third career win in the 100 fly, racing to a time of 44.66. He beat the 2010 champion, Cal's Tom Shields' by 12 hundreths of a second. Staab joins John Ferris (1969-71), Pablo Morales (1984-86) and Jay Mortensen (1987-89) as Stanford's three-time winners in the event.

Thompson bettered his career best by five hundreths of a second, moving into No. 4 all-time (from sixth) while finishing with a time of 3:54.01. It is the second-straight year Stanford has won the event, as Bollier won last year and first time since 2002 Stanford has swept both individual medleys.

Allen, one of four Cardinal in the A Finals, finished with a time of 1:34.28, as Stanford had five swimmers in the top-10.

Stanford also benefited from last week's three-meter diving, placing four athletes in the top-10 paced by Brent Eichenseer's fifth place finish. Those results gave the Cardinal 53 points, keeping Stanford in front, after trailing following the 100 breast when Cal had four swimmers in the A Finals.

Stanford was also a runner-up to Cal in the 400 medley relay, the last event of the night.

Stanford also had two consolation finals winners, Aaron Wayne in the 100 fly (46.95) and Alex Coville in the 200 free (1:35.12).

The Championship runs through Saturday at the Belmont Plaza Pool.
