Stanford, Calif. - The top-ranked women's tennis program in the nation will wrap up the regular season this week, with home matches against No. 62 Sacramento State on Thursday and No. 6 California on Saturday. Although the Cardinal will play host to the 2006 NCAA Tennis Championships in May and Stanford's seniors will continue to play at the Taube Tennis Center, the Cardinal will honor its seniors prior to their last regular season match on Saturday. Alice Barnes, Joanna Kao, Jessica Leck and Amber Liu will be recognized before the Cal match, with introductions set to begin at 11:40 a.m. and the first serve slated for noon.
Tomorrow, the Cardinal (22-0, 7-0) will host Sac State (12-7, 6-0 Big Sky) at 1:30 p.m. The Hornets have lost two-straight, a 7-0 decision to No. 21 Fresno State and a 4-3 loss at Washington. A win for Stanford would be the 95th-straight home victory and 79th-straight win.
On Saturday, the Cardinal will look to close out the 2006 regular season with a Pac-10 sweep. Stanford, 7-0 in conference play this year, has already clinched a share of its 19th Pac-10 championship, but will look to secure sole possession of the title with a win over the Golden Bears (15-6, 6-1 Pac-10). Stanford is 54-7 all-time against Cal, with a 6-1 victory earlier this season in Berkeley.
After its final two-regular season home matches this week, Stanford will gear up for postseason action, with the Pac-10 Championships on April 27-30, in Ojai, Calif. Stanford will then prepare for the NCAA Championships, with regionals beginning on May 12.
