UC Santa Barbara Head Coach Paul Stumpf

On the season ending with a loss...

"The sting of the last seventy or so minutes is tough, but I really want to think back to the big picture of the whole season that we have had. We had so many injuries early. By the third game we were out six starters with three out the entire year and three that were out three to six weeks. We had a tough non-conference and a tough preseason. We were not getting results and we were struggling. However, I am so please with the way these girls stuck with things, stuck together and kept persevering and battling and finally getting some of the results that we wanted. To me it is dream come true to make it the NCAA tournament. To go to years in a row it is just great. We only lose three senior and have a great class coming in so the experience of being here, seeing quality opposition makes me so optimistic about the future of our program."

On coming to Stanford for a second straight year and losing in the first round...

"I don't think this place is a jinx, I just think we have gotten beaten by a better team both times. They were definitely better, but when we scored on ourselves it changed things. We were getting changes, but after giving up a goal like that we just didn't deal with it that well."

On if the own goal really changed things...

"At some point it was going to turn because they are just that good. I definitely think it rattled us though."
