Austin, Texas - The Stanford divers got the 2009 Zone E Diving Regionals off to a great start as Dwight Dumais captured the men's 1-meter title. The Stanford women also fared well with two divers placing in the top-5 of the 3-meter competition.
Dumais captured his first zone championship by scoring 715.40 points. The zone title means that Dumais has also qualified for the 2009 NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships hosted by Texas A&M. The two-time All-American outdistanced second place Ben Grado of Arizona who finished with a score of 658.20.
The Cardinal had three other divers reach the final, led by Brent Eichenseer who finished seventh with 773.00 points. Taylor Sishc finished 15th with a score of 519.30 and Casey Weston finished 18th with a score of 493.30 to complete the Stanford squad.
The women were led by Carmen Stellar and Meg Hostage who finished just a point apart in fourth and fifth place, respectively. Stellar scored 571.85 points, while Hostage had 570.85. Emma Friesen of Hawaii won the zone title with a score of 594.20.
Mary Corbett also advanced to the final where she finished 16th with 496.50 points.
Sarah Ohr competed in the prelims where she was 20th with 236.80, but did not advance to the finals.
