Stanford, CA - The Cardinal (4-6 overall, 4-0 MPLL) comes off a 16-8 win over Denver to head into two more league games this weekend. Stanford hosts Bay Area rival California on Friday, April 12th at 7pm and then faces Denver again on Sunday, April 14th at 1pm - both games will be at Maloney Field.
Doubling Up the Pioneers
Stanford came alive against Denver to bring their streak of consecutive league wins to 15, stretching back to the 1999-2000 season. They have won four games this year, including the season opener, 17-5, against UC-Davis. In the triumph over Denver, freshman Julia Calzonetti registered 4 goals and 1 assist, she is second on the team 16 goals and 5 assists for 21 points.
Over the break the Card took on three tough teams and lost three games. They dropped games to Boston, 8-9, Brown, 7-12 and Vanderbilt, 10-15, to bring their overall record to 3-6. The team,s leading scorer, freshman Kelsey Twist, added 8 goals and 4 assists during the trip and she currently tops the squad with 19 goals and 7 assists for 26 total points. Junior Virginia Solomon, a transfer from Maryland, started all three games in the cage and notched 27 saves. Solomon leads the team with 77 saves on the season, over 10 games she has a .487 save percentage.
Senior tri-captain Liz Britt has been a powerful force on offense for the team this season scoring at least 1 goal in eight of ten games. She has 12 goals so far this season and 52 career goals, placing her 5th in all-time goals scored. Emily Rodriguez, also a senior tri-captain, has been solid at midfield recording 28 groundballs, 8 caused turnovers and 4 draw controls, which puts her 1st in all three career categories. She has 147 groundballs, 68 caused turnovers and 48 draw controls.
