Box Score

Columbus, Ohio - Junior Sarah Bach scored four goals and Megan Burker recorded a hat trick to lead the No. 20 ranked Stanford women's lacrosse team to a 13-7 victory over Ohio State in Columbus on Saturday. The Cardinal wrapped up the regular season on a five-game winning streak and head into next weekend's MPSF Championship tournament with an 11-5 overall mark, while the Buckeyes fall to 5-9 on the season with the loss.

Ohio State got on the board first, as Lindsay Weiner and Regina Oliver scored back-to-back goals to put the Buckeyes in front. The Cardinal answered back with three straight scores, as sophomore Liz Piselli tallied twice and freshman Megan McClain also scored to give Stanford a 3-2 advantage. Molly Gilbert stemmed the tide for Ohio State by scoring with 21:06 left in the half to knot the game at 3-3, but Bach then netted her first score to put the Cardinal up by one. The Buckeyes evened the score once again with Weiner's second goal, but Burker recorded her first tally and assisted on a goal by senior Nina Pantano to give Stanford the lead for good.

The goals by Burker and Pantano would set off a six-goal Cardinal run that put the contest out of reach, as Stanford tallied the first four goals of the second period. Bach scored a pair of unassisted goals to begin the Cardinal flurry, and freshman Ariana Parasco assisted on a goal by McClain to give coach Michele Uhlfelder's squad a 9-4 lead just eight minutes into the half. Bach scored her fourth goal of the game on a free position shot before Ohio State got goals from Oliver and Kristen Hannon to cut the lead to 10-6. The Stanford offense continued to press the Buckeyes, reeling off three straight goals in the final 10 minutes of play to put the game out of reach. Freshman Daphne Patterson scored on a free position shot, and Burker netted a pair of unassisted goals to finish off her hat trick for the evening. The Cardinal surrendered a goal to Brandie Williams with less than two minutes remaining in the contest, but the Buckeyes wouldn't get any closer as Stanford wrapped up a 13-7 win.

Bach led all scorers with four goals, while Burker chipped in with three scores and an assist. Piselli and McClain each scored twice for the Cardinal, while Pantano and Patterson tallied a goal apiece. Parasco and senior Kelsey Twist both added assists for the Cardinal. Oliver and Weiner led the Buckeyes with two goals each, while Oliver attempted a game-high 10 shots. Ohio State out-shot Stanford by a 36-28 margin.

Freshman Laura Shane turned in another outstanding performance in net, making 13 saves on the afternoon. Junior Kate Horowitz came on as a sub for Shane in the final two minutes of the contest and made a pair of stops. Ohio State's Joy DeMarco and Kim Hastings combined to make nine saves in net for the Buckeyes.

Stanford enters the MPSF Championship tournament in Moraga next weekend as the top seed, and will play a semifinal contest on May 6th against the winner of one of the two quarterfinal games that will take play on May 5th. The Cardinal will be looking to avenge an 11-10 loss to Cal in last year's MPSF championship game.
