STANFORD, Calif. - The No. 4 Stanford's men's gymnastics team put forth it's best performance of the season Sunday in a 351.050-341.700 victory over No. 8 Michigan at Burnham Pavilion. After concluding Senior Day honors, the Cardinal swept all six events posting season-highs in floor exercise, still rings, vault and parallel bars to even it's record against NCAA teams to 4-4.
Eddie Penev captured the all-around with a score of 87.350. Penev led the team on floor exercise (15.500) and posted counting scores on each of the remaining five events.
Stanford continued it's strong performances on vault. The Cardinal came into the meet ranked first nationally in the event and Cale Robinson (15.400) joined fixtures Sean Senters (15.000) and Penev (14.850) at the top of the leaderboard.
Head coach Thom Glielmi was pleased to see his team put forth a strong performance.
"I think we're on track," said Glielmi. "We still counted some missed routines so there's room to improve, some guys are still getting healthy. We saw Cale show up on floor and vault today and we had a good showing overall. I think our hit percentage is pretty good, but we want to make sure we hit our top-four routines in every event."
"This is what we wanted to do, have a good competition before we start competing on the road. We don't have conference championships or NCAA's in Burnham Pavilion so the guys need to get out there and be seen by other judges in different venues and on different equipment. We're in good shape."
Seniors Foreman, Alvarado, Nolff and Martin were honored before the meet with their families.
Stanford has three road meets remaining before MPSF and NCAA Championships in April. The Cardinal will face off with Oklahoma in Norman, Okla. on March 3rd before travelling to Ohio State and the University of Illinois at Chicago.
