STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford freshman Ashley Morgan earned her first Pacific-10 Conference Gymnast of the Week honor for her performance in the Cardinal's quad meet victories Sunday at Burnham Pavilion.
Competing in the all-around for the first time as a collegian, Morgan set four collegiate career bests and won two events on the way to capturing a third, the all-around title. Her score of 39.450 was the highest for a Stanford freshman since Carly Janiga scored a 39.575 in 2007.
Morgan posted scores of 9.875 in the vault (first), 9.800 on the bars (sixth), 9.875 on the balance (9.875), and 9.90 on the floor (second). The victories were her first in collegiate competition and helped Stanford score a season-high 196.650 points to beat No. 24 Washington (194.075), Sacramento State (193.225) and San Jose State (192.800).
Morgan and the No. 8 Cardinal next compete at No. 5 UCLA on Sunday at 2 p.m. in a rematch of Stanford's 196.425-195.825 victory over the then-No. 1 Bruins on Jan. 24 at Burnham Pavilion.
