Stanford University, in partnership with Windermere Real Estate, today announced the line-up of teams for the fourth-annual Windermere Real Estate Rowing Classic, an invitational rowing regatta held at Redwood Shores, in Redwood City, California. This two-day regatta and free community festival takes place on Saturday, March 25 from 9a.m. to 6p.m., and Sunday, March 26 from 9a.m. to 5p.m. The regatta features more than 100 crew races between the nation's top universities as well as more than 400 club and high school rowers.
Drawing nearly 1,000 athletes and countless spectators each year, the Windermere Real Estate Rowing Classic is one of the most anticipated rowing events on the West Coast. In addition to Stanford University, visiting teams include, Boston University, British Columbia, California, Harvard, Long Beach State, Loyola, Navy, Northeastern, Ohio State, Oregon State, University of Pennsylvania, Princeton, Santa Clara, Sonoma State, Syracuse, Trinity College, UC Davis, University of Virginia, Washington, and Yale. Athletes will compete in two days of Henley style racing, a one-on-one or a two-boat race used for competition at the famous Henley Royal Regatta in Henley-on-Thames, England.
"The Windermere Real Estate Rowing Classic brings together the nation's top teams to go head-to-head on one of the best racing courses in the country," said Craig Amerkhanian, Stanford director of rowing and head men's coach. "We're very thankful for Windermere Real Estate's continued support of this event - and this sport - and we're looking forward to another spectacular weekend on the water."
"Windermere Real Estate is honored to be the title sponsors of this regatta for the fourth consecutive year and we once again look forward to sharing this inspiring event with the people of the Bay Area," said Gretchen Pearson, President of Windermere Real Estate in Northern California. "The regatta offers a unique opportunity for our agents to interact with top collegiate rowers from around the country while celebrating alongside countless fans from the Bay Area neighborhoods we serve."
Windermere's heritage of supporting collegiate crew racing began 20 years ago when the company sponsored the first annual Windermere Cup regatta in Seattle. Held in partnership with the University of Washington, the Windermere Cup has become one of the largest free community events in Seattle, welcoming both national and international crew teams for exciting competition and commencing the official opening day of boating season for the waters of the Puget Sound. In 2003, Windermere expanded it's involvement with the sport and launched, in conjunction with Stanford University, the Windermere Real Estate Rowing Classic at Redwood Shores.
