Stanford, Calif. - Junior Sarah Bach was named as the first MPSF Player of the Week for 2005 after leading the Cardinal to three MPSF conference wins to open the season. The Baltimore native led the Cardinal to two road victories in MPSF play over the weekend with seven goals and a pair of assists. In Stanford's 14-5 win over Saint Mary's on Friday, the attacker paced all scorers with five goals and two assists on eight shots. The five goals and seven points against the Gaels marked a career-high for the junior. Bach followed up the performance with a pair of goals on just three shots in Sunday's 11-4 win over UC Davis. In the Cardinal's season-opening win over Oregon, Bach scored four goals to lead Stanford to a 19-6 victory. Bach currently leads the 3-0 Cardinal with 11 goals, 13 points, and 15 shots.
Senior midfielder Kelsey Twist was tabbed for honorable mention Player of the Week accolades by Inside Lacrosse Magazine. In the Cardinal wins over Saint Mary's and UC Davis, Twist tallied four goals and added seven assists as the Cardinal improved to 3-0 to begin the season. The Baltimore native recorded two goals and two assists against the Gaels, and scored twice with a career-high five assists against the Aggies on Sunday. The five assists against UC Davis broke the Stanford single-game assist mark of four, set by Heddy Born during the 2000 season.
The Cardinal takes this weekend off in preparation for the team's home opener against Connecticut on March 4th. Stanford welcomes Georgetown to The Farm on March 6th for the fourth annual deBeer East/West Challenge.
