Columbus, Ohio - Cardinal junior Poppy Carlig has been named to the 2007 World Championship Team, as announced by U.S. Synchronized Swimming yesterday. The Richmond, Calif. native was among the 12 athletes to earn a spot on the team when the 2007 Senior National Synchronized Swimming Team Trials concluded at the McCorkle Aquatic Center in Columbus, Ohio.
The athletes completed four swims over two days along with an element competition during which they performed fundamental skills in front of a panel of judges. The athletes swam individually twice and in groups based on ranking two more times. Carlig placed 11th with a final score of 86.7 to earn a spot on the team.
Carlig and the rest of the team named this week will represent the U.S. at the FINA World Aquatic Championships held in Melbourne, Australia, March 17-24. The nine-member Olympic Team will be named April 28, 2007 in Indianapolis, Ind. at the U.S. National Championships.
