STANFORD, Calif. - No. 6 Stanford dropped to 0-2 on the season, falling to No. 18 Ohio State, 14-10. The Buckeyes took an early lead and despite a comeback effort, the Cardinal fell just short.

"We didn't have the energy we need to start the game," said head coach Amy Bokker. "I thought we came out strong in the second half, but we just couldn't sustain it."

It was a tale of two halves for Stanford as it had limited opportunities in the first frame, but was able to finish its chances. In the second half, Stanford controlled play, but could not seem to convert on shooting opportunities.

Stanford fell behind 7-4 in the first half as it was unable to control possession. The Buckeyes won nine of 12 draw controls in the half and outshot the Cardinal, 15-6.

Catherine Swanson scored two goals in the opening half and Maria Fortino and Hannah Farr each added a score. The Cardinal had just six shots in the half, but converted on four. Lyndsey Munoz had three of her four saves in the half to help Stanford keep it close.

The Cardinal came out with renewed energy in the second half, tying the score almost immediately. First, Emilie Boeri found her sister Anna Boeri for a goal and then Emilie scored one of her own. Finally, Anna Kim scored just 2:38 into the half to tie the score at 7-7.

The Buckeyes fought back and regained a three-goal lead. Rachel Ozer and Carolyn Bradley scored for Cardinal and Swanson scored a third goal for a hat trick, but Stanford got no closer than 11-10.

Stanford outshot Ohio State 22-11 in the second half, but was unable to convert its chances. Buckeye goalkeeper Tori DeScenza made 11 second-half saves that proved to be the difference.

The Cardinal will now go out on the road when it faces No. 20 Notre Dame on Sunday, February 19, at 9 a.m., PT. Stanford will look for its first win of the season against a third-straight ranked opponent.
