Stanford, Calif. - Top-ranked Stanford (2-0) will begin competition tomorrow at the 2006 USTA-ITA National Team Indoor Championships, hosted by the University of Wisconsin at the A.C. Nielsen Tennis Stadium. The 16-team field includes 15 of the top 21 ranked teams in the country.
Stanford is also the No. 1 seed in the tournament, and will face No. 13 Kentucky in the first round. Only four schools have won the USTA-ITA title in its 18-year history. The Cardinal leads all schools with eight championships followed by Florida with six, Georgia with three and Duke with one. Stanford also leads all schools with 13 championship match appearances.
Stanford enters this tournament with a 58-match win streak (29-0 in 2004, 27-0 in 2005 and 2-0 to start the 2006 season).
The Cardinal and Wildcats will face off at 3 p.m. (CT) on Thursday. Friday's schedule begins with the consolations at 9 a.m., followed by the quarterfinals at 3 p.m.
