Jan. 30, 2006

Stanford, Calif. - Stanford Athletics announced today its 2006 Ticket Sales Program for the new Stanford Stadium during a morning press conference.  The press conference included Hall of Fame football coach and The Jaquish & Kenninger Director of Athletics Bill Walsh, Senior Associate Athletic Director of Facilities and Operations Ray Purpur, and Special Assistant to the Director of Athletics on Stadium Management Chris Hutchins.  Following the announcement, media were invited to participate in a hard-hat tour of the stadium construction site.

In addition to rolling out new ticket prices and packages, press conference participants also introduced Stanford Athletics' inaugural Priority Seating Program (PSP) and a new premium seating section called the Buck/Cardinal Champions Fund, which contributes to scholarship aid and program support for Stanford student-athletes.

"The Stanford Stadium project is obviously one of the most important capital projects in Stanford history," said Bill Walsh, The Jaquish & Kenninger Director of Athletics. "We're very pleased with where we are in the process and excited to begin selling tickets and giving our fans and student-athletes the opportunity to experience what we feel will be one of the premiere college football facilities in the nation."

Stanford Athletics' 2006 Football Season Ticket Program offers a variety of ticket packages at exceptional prices. New packages and special sections have been created to attract more young families, Stanford alumni, students, faculty/staff, as well as new, prospective fans from corporate and community groups to the stadium. 2006 Priority Seating Program Rewards Long Time Stanford Football Supporters
In an effort to achieve an equitable distribution of seats in the 50,000-seat stadium, Stanford Athletics instituted the 2006 Priority Seating Program (PSP).  The PSP was designed to reward long-time supporters of Stanford football and recognize new donors for their financial contribution to support student-athletes.  2006 season ticket holders will be assigned seats based on the following program criteria:

  1. Member of the newly established Buck/Cardinal Champions Fund (premium stadium seating section)
  2. Longevity of football season tickets held
  3. Number of other Stanford sports season tickets held (2004-05 season)
  4. Cumulative lifetime giving - as of 3/17/06 (Athletic giving is weighted 4x University giving)
  5. Consecutive giving (3 year minimum)
  6. Faculty/staff status
  7. Alumni status
  8. General public

Buck/Cardinal Champions Fund Supports Stanford's Varsity Sports Programs
The Buck/Cardinal Champions Fund are two new premium seating sections located between the 45-yard lines on both the east and west sides of the stadium.  Limited in quantity, the premium seating options will require an annual donation plus the cost of a season ticket. The total number of seats included in the Buck/Cardinal Champions Fund represents less that five percent (5%) of the total stadium seating and was developed to establish new incremental annual revenue streams needed to support Stanford's varsity sports programs.

"It's critical that people recognize that 95% of the seats in Stanford Stadium do not require an annual donation," said Walsh.  "For those who have an interest in supporting Stanford Athletics and our student-athletes, we have created The Buck/Cardinal Champions Fund, which will help support our 35 intercollegiate varsity sports."

The two premium stadium seating options offered include:  The Buck/Cardinal Champions Fund Touchdown Level (requires $1,000 annual donation plus season ticket) and the Buck/Cardinal Champions Fund Varsity Level (requires $2,000 annual donation plus season ticket).  The 80% tax-deductible donation gives those interested access to special amenities at Stanford Stadium such as priority seating, priority parking, private stadium entrance, enhanced food and beverage menu at the Varsity Club hospitality suite (Varsity Level members only), prompt food and beverage service via speed line concessions throughout the stadium, and other services.

Virtual Stadium Tour Offers Preview of Seats and Sightlines

Starting February 1, prospective season ticket buyers will be given an opportunity to preview sightlines from any seat in the new Stanford Stadium with the help of a new virtual tour, which can be found at www.stanfordstadium.com.  The virtual tour provides a panoramic view from selected seat locations, and is intended to be a tool to assist with seat selection.

2006 Informational Meetings
Stanford Athletics will host a series of Informational Meetings beginning January 31 that will be held throughout the Bay Area.  The meetings will describe the Ticket Sales and Priority Seating Program (PSP) in more detail and allow for questions from those in attendance.  The final meeting will be held March 2.  All meetings will be open to the public.
