Stanford Signs Five Outstanding Athletes To National Letters of Intent

Stanford, Calif. - Stanford Gymnastics is excited to announce the signing of five outstanding student-athletes for the class of 2008. "The five recruits we have signed for the 2004-2005 season are unbelievable students and phenomenal athletes," remarked Head Coach Kristen Smyth. "These exceptional young women bring international experience, explosiveness and power, elegance and artistry. It has been an absolute pleasure getting to know these student-athletes and their families. They are going to make outstanding contributions to the Stanford Community."

Lauren Elmore from Bloomington, IN is the 2003 Junior Olympic National All Around Champion. She trains at Wright's Gymnastics under Casey Wright and is a solid competitor on all four events. Lauren has been a fixture on the National scene for several years and has been recognized as the USA Gymnastics 2003 Region V Junior Olympic Athlete of the Year. "Lauren's specialties are vault and floor where she is extremely explosive and exciting to watch. Lauren has incredible potential to grow and succeed at Stanford."

Stephanie Gentry from Plano, TX is an International Elite gymnast and currently ranks 23rd in the U.S. She trains at World Olympic Gymnastics Academy (WOGA) under Evgeny Marchenko and Natasha Boyarskaya and is currently aiming for a spot on the 2004 Olympic Team. "Stephanie is a beautiful athlete with exquisite lines and presentation. She is extremely artistic and has a unique style that stands out from other gymnasts. She is going to make an immediate impact on our program and will contribute on every event."

Alexandra Pintchouk, from Princeton, NJ is an outstanding Level 10 gymnast and trains at Will-Moor Gymnastics under Kim Bonus and Valentina Pintchouk. Born in Minsk, Belarus Alex has been a Junior Olympic National Qualifier for the last three years despite a late start in gymnastics at age eleven. "Alex is excellent on all four events and has a special performance quality that will be rewarded at the collegiate level. She is extremely motivated to continue developing as an athlete and her charismatic presence will be a huge addition to our program."

and currently ranks 12th in the U.S. She trains at Illinois Gymnastics Institute (IGI) under Todd Gardiner and is a member of the USA Senior National Team. Liz was an alternate for the Pan American Games Team and is currently training for a spot on the 2004 Olympic Team. "Liz is an excellent all around competitor and is one of the most powerful athletes in the world on bars and vault. Her dynamic personality and gymnastics, combined with her boundless positive energy will be a huge addition to our program."

Tabitha Yim from Irvine, CA is an International Elite gymnast and is a leading member of the USA Senior National Team. She trains at Gliders Gymnastics under Steve and Beth Rybacki and was an alternate for the 2003 Pan-American Games Team. Tabitha was a member of the 2001 World Championship Team and is currently training for a spot on the 2004 Olympic Team. "Tabitha is wonderful on all four events, and on beam and floor exercise she is among the very best in the world. She has great leadership skills and a personality that will be a tremendous asset to our team," said Smyth.

With three straight trips to the NCAA Championships, a Super Six appearance in 2002 and a Pac 10 Championship title in 2001, Stanford Gymnastics is a program on the rise. "We have been building something special here at Stanford over the last three years. Tabitha, Liz, Stephanie, Lauren and Alex are going to play a huge role in our quest for an NCAA Championship title. I would like to thank the staff and our student-athletes for putting their heart and soul into this years recruiting process," added Smyth.
