Redwood Shores, Calif. - In the varsity eight event the #2 Golden Bears got off to a two seat advantage and then turned it in to an eight seat gap by the 1000 meter mark. The Cardinal fought back closing the margin in the second half of the race but came up short finishing 2.5 seconds behind the Bears.

The second varsity, novice four, and the novice eight lost by decisive margins in their races.

Head Coach Aimee Baker says of the racing, "California is an excellent team that jumped out to an early lead. Our boats fought hard but gave up too much at the start to overcome. We have two weeks to make improvements before we see Cal and the other west coast teams at the Pac-10 Championship's."

The Stanford lightweights competed against the California third varsity and second novice boats. The Stanford varsity lightweight boat finished 13 seconds behind the California third varsity and the Stanford novice lightweight boat finished nine seconds behind the California second novice.
